Bere Regis

Bere Regis is a small, pretty village in Dorset. If peace and tranquillity are on the agenda, you have found it. Bere Regis was made famous by Thomas Hardy in his classic story ‘Tess of the d'Urbervilles". The village has a shop, post office and two pubs. It is very picturesque with thatched cottages and Bere Regis Church takes centre stage.

There are plenty of cycle and walking trails to discover, in fact, explore Wareham Forest by foot or bike, either way, the paths are smooth and easy. Dogs can join you on this adventure too. Staying around the village then both the Lawrence Ride and Purbeck Ride cycle routes pass through the nearby villages of Briantspuddle and Turnerspuddle and then skirt the southern edge of Bere Regis. The Jubilee Trail walking route passes through Bere Regis towards Moreton village.

The beautiful Athelhampton House is a short drive away on the edge of Puddletown village. Explore the Tudor house and extensive gardens, relax in the cafe for cream tea or dinner. Monkey World, in Wareham, is an all-year-round attraction. Although a very popular tourist attraction, Monkey World does serious work and helps governments around the world to stop the smuggling of primates from the wild. There are over 230 primates at Monkey World of including the home of Europe's only Orang-utan creche. Visit the Tank Museum in Bovington, experience driving a tank or watch the amazing re-enactment of a battle, complete with explosions.
